Los Angeles Review of Architecture reviews architecture in Los Angeles. Published in 2024, it is the first ever special issue of New York Review of Architecture. Guest edited by Mimi Zeiger, it features up-and-coming writers from Los Angeles and brings the specificity, quality, and humor of New York Review of Architecture to the west coast.

Samuel Medina is a writer and editor living in New York. He is the editor of New York Review of Architecture, having been previously the executive editor of the Architect's Newspaper. His writing has appeared in various publications and periodicals, including Artforum, The Art Newspaper, and Harvard Design Magazine. In 2019, he edited two manuscripts for Terreform’s Urban Research series, the nonprofit and imprint led by the late Michael Sorkin. In 2021, he helped to found the New Voices in Architectural Journalism fellowship.

Marianela D’Aprile is a writer and editor based in Brooklyn, New York. She writes broadly on culture and politics, with a focus on architecture and art. Her work has appeared in Jacobin, The Nation, Metropolis, and The Architect’s Newspaper, among many others. With Cooper Rogers, she was editor-in-chief of Room One Thousand, the University of California, Berkeley’s journal of architecture. She holds a master’s in architecture history and theory from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s of architecture from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is deputy editor of New York Review of Architecture.

Nicholas Raap is a writer and occasional designer, he studied architecture and criticism at the Architectural Association in London and Iowa State University between Ames, Iowa and Rome. He was previously editor-in-chief of DATUM Journal of Architecture, and his work and collaborations have appeared in SENT, Journal of Architecture Education, ArchDaily, and Archinect, and been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the 2016 Venice Biennale. He is the operations coordinator for New York Review of Architecture.

Nicolas Kemper is trained as an architect and journalist. He has worked for architecture and engineering firms and written for AA Files, Urban Omnibus, and Scope of Work. He is on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts and volunteers as a tour guide at St. John the Divine. He is the publisher of New York Review of Architecture.

Mimi Zeiger is a Los Angeles-based critic, editor, and curator. She was cocurator of the United States Pavilion for the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale and 2020–21 Exhibit Columbus. She has written for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Architectural Review, Metropolis, and Architect and is an opinion columnist for Dezeen. Zeiger is the 2015 recipient of the Bradford Williams Medal for excellence in writing about landscape architecture and serves as book editor of Landscape Architecture Magazine. Zeiger is author of New Museums, Tiny Houses, Micro Green: Tiny Houses in Nature, and Tiny Houses in the City, and editor of the LA Forum Reader, Dimensions of Citizenship catalog, Made Up: Design’s Fictions. In 1997, Zeiger founded loud paper, an influential zine and digital publication dedicated to increasing the volume of architectural discourse. She holds a master’s of architecture degree from SCI-Arc and a bachelor’s of architecture degree from Cornell University.

Laura Coombs, New York Review of Architecture art director, is a graphic designer in New York, was previously the head of design at New Museum, is a lecturer at Princeton University, and is the head of her own graphic design studio focusing on the strategy and design of cultural identities and publications.

The New York Review of Architecture (NYRA) advances critical conversations on the built environment. It publishes significant and timely writing on architecture outside of academic or trade contexts while maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity and professionalism. Founded in 2019, the NYRA is an independent publication based in New York City that publishes in print six times a year and a newsletter, SKYLINE. Contributors file dispatches from the city’s architectural institutions and communities, connecting local conversations to audiences everywhere. NYRA features an array of formats including essays, interviews, short critiques, book reviews, cartoons, and brief reports on current events.
